WORLD PHYSIOTHERAPY DAY

World Physiotherapy Day is observed on September 8 every year. It is celebrated to raise awareness about the crucial contribution of physiotherapists and the chronic pain therapies done by them to keep people well and fit. Physiotherapy plays very important role in our daily life and gone are the days when one would not get a physiotherapist easily. A simple search on internet “physiotherapy near me” or “Physiotherapist near me” can solve your problem with one click.

Physiotherapy what is, Physiotherapists help people affected by injury, illness or disability using advanced techniques and evidence-based care. Physiotherapists assess, diagnose, treat and prevent a wide range of health conditions and movements. Physiotherapy helps repair the damage, reduce stiffness and pain, increase mobility and improve quality of life.

Physiotherapy management commonly includes specific exercises, manual therapy and manipulation, mechanical devices such as traction, electrophysical modalities which include heat, cold, electricity, sound waves, radiation, assistive devices, prostheses, orthoses, and other interventions. In addition, physiotherapists work to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan. 

Physiotherapy is a professional career that has many specialities, including musculoskeletal, orthopaedics, cardiopulmonary, neurology, sports medicine, geriatrics, paediatrics, women health.

Chronic Disease: Cardiovascular and pulmonary:

Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation include therapy for various cardiopulmonary disorders or pre and post cardiac or pulmonary surgery. The primary goal is to increasing endurance and functional independence. Manual therapy is used in this field to assist in clearing lung secretions. Pulmonary disorders, post coronary bypass surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and pulmonary fibrosis treatments can benefit from cardiovascular disease and pulmonary specialised physiotherapists. Physiotherapy is also of special importance in COVID-19 infection, right from the ICU to post covid health care. 

Physiotherapy At Home For Geriatric:

As people get older, they are prone to small mishaps, apt to fall more often, and undergo medical procedures to recover. Very often, just the advent of old age causes weakened joints and muscles. Physiotherapy can be a big boon to the elderly and Physiotherapy at home could be fruitful For Geriatric: Many conditions affect many people as they grow older and include but are not limited to the following: arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, hip and joint replacement, balance disorders, incontinence, etc. 

Sports Injuries:

Sportspeople tend to push their bodies over the limit and are prone to injuries like fractures, torn tissues, ligaments, sprains, etc. Physiotherapists help athletes, and well-known athletes usually have a full-time physiotherapist to ensure that their body is in top shape.

Orthopaedics:

Physiotherapists diagnose, manage, and treat disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system, including rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery, acute trauma such as sprains, strains, injuries of insidious onset such as tendinopathy, bursitis, and deformities like scoliosis. Physiotherapists are trained in the treatment of post-operative orthopaedic procedures, fractures, acute sports injuries, arthritis, sprains, strains, back and neck pain, spinal conditions, and amputations.

Neurology:

Physiotherapy is a field focused on working with individuals who have a neurological disorder or disease. These can include stroke, chronic back pain, Alzheimer’s disease, brain injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, facial palsy and spinal cord injury. Common impairments associated with neurologic conditions include impairments of vision, balance, ambulation, activities of daily living, movement, muscle strength and loss of functional independence. 

 Paediatrics:

Physiotherapists assists in the early detection of health problems in kids. Therapists specialise in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of infants, children, and adolescents with various congenital, developmental, neuromuscular, skeletal, or acquired disorders/diseases. Treatments focus mainly on improving gross and fine motor skills, balance and coordination, strength and endurance, as well as cognitive and sensory processing/integration. 

Women’s health:

Women’s health conditions include lymphedema, osteoporosis, pelvic pain, prenatal and postpartum periods, and urinary incontinence. It also addresses incontinence, pelvic pain, and other disorders associated with pelvic floor dysfunction.
