Srinagar: The union minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said that the 8.5 km tunnel between Qazigund and Banihal has been completed and thrown open for traffic on a trial basis.
Gadkari, on his official Twitter handle said that the tunnel between Qazigund and Banihal has been thrown open for traffic on a trial basis, which is another milestone in infrastructure development of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, another milestone in infrastructure development of Jammu & Kashmir is fulfilled. The 8.5 km tunnel between Quazigund and Banihal has been completed and open to traffic for trial,” he tweeted.
In another Tweet he said: “Built at 5800 feet above sea level, the tunnel will replace Jawahar tunnel and will provide all weather connectivity. It will reduce travel time between Jammu – Srinagar by about 1.5 hours & 16 km.”
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha thanked Prime Minister Narandra Modi for his vision of quality infrastructure in the union territor.
