A teacher, an indispensable cornerstone of any nation, tirelessly invests effort and devotion to sculpt the promising fate of their homeland. They diligently correct the errors of their students, leaving no avenue unexplored in cultivating them into refined citizens. The progress and development of a nation are intricately linked to the presence of dedicated educators who plant the seeds for a brighter tomorrow and nurture the aspirations of countless learners. This is why a teacher is often regarded as the next deity by their pupils.
In contemporary times, the once profound moral and cultural bond between teacher and student has dwindled, replaced by a commercialized educational landscape. The sacred connection that once thrived has fossilized amidst the chaos. Despite this, amidst the tumult, there exist individuals who continue to lay the foundation for national growth. One such nation builder is spotlighted here:
Ab Gani Bhat, born into an illiterate family in the quaint hamlet of Watigam in Kulgam district, emerged from humble beginnings. His parents, Habibullah Bhat and Raja Begam, enrolled him in the nearby Government primary school. Despite initial obstacles, Ab Gani’s educational journey found unwavering support from his maternal uncle, the dedicated government teacher Mohammad Sultan Mir. Transfers led Ab Gani through various institutions, with his uncle providing crucial guidance and care that is often missing in the present era.
Ab Gani’s academic journey continued through Government High School Manzgam, where he excelled in his secondary examination in 1981. His passion for learning led him to pursue science subjects, and he secured admission in Government Higher Secondary School Kulgam, passing the 12th examination with flying colors in 1986. Graduating from Government Degree College Boys Khanabal further showcased his intelligence and hard work. Ab Gani’s commitment to education saw him crack the entrance test for Kashmir University, where he completed his MSc in Chemistry in 1990, amid the tumultuous times of insurgency.
In 1991, Ab Gani embarked on his teaching career, initially joining Government Boys Higher Secondary School Kulgam. His dedication and passion swiftly propelled him to the role of Lecturer in Chemistry in Higher Education. A continuous journey of service led him to his current position as a Principal.
Ab Gani’s success resonated not only within his family but throughout his entire village. Beyond his career, he pursued a BEd degree through distance learning from IGNOU, exemplifying his commitment to continuous learning. A man of principles, Ab Gani’s simplicity, honesty, and integrity set him apart. Under his adept administration, Government Higher Secondary School D H Pora transformed from deplorable conditions to a Model Higher Secondary institution, gaining recognition and fame.
Ab Gani Bhat’s remarkable odyssey unfolds—a journey from a quiet hamlet to the forefront of education. As a dedicated teacher turned Principal, his story encapsulates the transformative power of resilience, passion, and unwavering commitment.
The accolades followed Ab Gani’s trail, with District Administration honoring his academic excellence on multiple occasions, conferring the “BEST TEACHER AWARD” on Teachers’ Day. The Sub-Divisional Administration in D H Pora recognized him as the best principal on Republic Days, acknowledging his tireless efforts in shaping the education scenario in rural areas. Recognizing his expertise in school administration, leadership, pedagogical innovations, work culture, and sincerity, Ab Gani Bhat was elevated to the position of Deputy Chief Education Officer of District Kulgam. Additionally, he holds the charge of Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) of D H Pora Zone, a testament to his vast experience and meticulous work ethic.
Having been a student under his tutelage during higher secondary classes, I experienced firsthand the dedication with which Ab Gani Bhat imparted knowledge, overcoming limited infrastructure challenges. I also collaborated with Bhat Sahab during the Super50 free winter schooling initiative. As he continues his journey, I extend my heartfelt wishes for even greater success ahead.
