The Kashmiri language boasts one of the richest literary traditions in the world, as evidenced by the widespread translation of its works into numerous global languages. This linguistic and cultural heritage, nurtured since the 15th century by towering figures like Lalla Ded, Sheikh-ul-Alam, and Habba Khatoon, continues to flourish. The modern era saw luminaries such as Abdul Ahad Azad, Mehjoor, Dina Nath Nadim, Amin Kamil, and Ghulam Nabi Khayal advancing the language’s development and promotion.
In the contemporary era, figures like Rehman Rahi, Shafi Shouq, Naseem Shafayi, Shad Ramzan, and Mehfooza Jan are carrying this legacy forward, working tirelessly to ensure its preservation and accessibility to global audiences. Their collective efforts are supported by numerous literary organizations and forums that host seminars, debates, and symposiums aimed at elevating Kashmiri literature to the status of a dominant regional language.
A significant milestone in this journey was the introduction of Kashmiri as a compulsory subject up to Class 8 in schools across Jammu and Kashmir, a testament to the unwavering efforts of these organizations. Among them, Adbi Markaz Kamraz Jammu Kashmir (AMK) stands out as one of the oldest and most vibrant forums, playing a pivotal role in uniting writers, poets, and scholars under a common platform.
