JAMMU, Dec 17: The Press Club of Jammu (PCJ) has extended full support to the demands voiced by editors of major newspapers of Jammu and Kashmir seeking implementation of DAVP rates for the Government advertisements for all categories of newspapers.
In a statement issued here, PCJ president Sanjeev Pargal said the newspapers of Jammu and Kashmir have been raising the demand for DAVP rates for the Government advertisements through different forums and recently they have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Singh seeking fulfillment of the demand.
“The DAVP rates are applicable to regional newspapers in all the Union Territories but the media in Jammu and Kashmir has been deprived of the similar benefits,’’ Pargal said and expressed confidence that the Lieutenant Governor will concede the demand at the earliest.
Justifying the demand raised by the Editors of various newspapers and endorsed by several media bodies including JK Press Corps, the PCJ chief said the newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir have been suffering on various accounts and it is now high time that the Government comes to their rescue.
Asserting that the newspapers have been working under extreme tough circumstances in Jammu and Kashmir, Pargal said it also becomes responsibility of the UT Government to assist them at this juncture. Further, he said, since Jammu and Kashmir is a UT, the newspapers should be treated at par with other UTs which have been giving DAVP rates to the newspapers published from there.
He said the DAVP rates are necessary for growth of the media industry in Jammu and Kashmir and expressed confidence that the Government will announce implementation of the new rates for the advertisements issued to the newspapers.
