DHSK visits Budgam to take stock of health care services

Srinagar: Director Health Services Kashmir (DHSK), Dr Jehangir Bakshi today toured District Budgam to assess health care services being provided to the general public of the region. On this occasion he was accompanied by Divisional Level Officers and Officials. The aim of the visit was for a comprehensive assessment of the hospital’s functioning and issue redressals.

DHSK started his tour with visiting District Hospital Budgam and inspected various sections of the hospital to review the operational status, staff strength, drug and logistic status and address any concerns regarding the facility’s services and infrastructure. Apart from routine evaluation he laid key focus on Biomedical Equipment Management and Maintenance Program (BEMMP). The Director personally reviewed the list of equipment under this program and emphasised for adherence to proper protocols in handling condemned equipment. The Director also led a discussion on realigning the hospital’s departments in accordance with the current medical standards. An important directive was issued regarding the hospital’s preparedness for disaster management. The Director moreover stressed the need for developing a comprehensive disaster response plan for the facility.

DHSK later took review of status of various National Health Programmes being implemented in District Hospital Budgam and conducted a detailed inspection of the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) also. While reviewing the Jan Aushadhi store, the Director stressed the importance of ensuring it operates 24/7, guaranteeing that patients have constant access to affordable medicines. He also conducted a prescription audit and stressed for abiding by guidelines for drug dispensing and patient care.During his meeting with Medical Superintendent he laid prioritization for the establishment of a Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) at the hospital also as per the guidelines and directives from higher authorities. The visit concluded with an inspection of the Oxygen Generation Plant, where the Director assessed its functionality and ensured that the equipment was working efficiently to meet the hospital’s oxygen supply needs.

Following the visit to District Hospital Budgam, the DHSK along with the team visited the new construction site of the 125 bedded District Hospital at Reshipora, Budgam. The Director conducted an on-site evaluation of the work-in-progress, monitoring the construction carried out by the concerned constructing agency. Special attention was given to the construction quality and the timeline for completing the facility. In addition to the main hospital, the Director also reviewed the on-going work on a 100 bedded Critical Care Block, which is being constructed separately under the National Health Mission (NHM).

At the end of the tour DHSK also visited PCH Ompora and PHC Laloo to review the functioning of the said institutes. DHSK and his team was also accompanied by BMO Budgam on this occasion.These visits underscore the Directorate’s commitment to improving healthcare services in the region by optimizing existing resources and augmenting logistics to meet the growing needs of the population.
