A new record was created in the history of the Kashmir valley as 10,000 young women thronged together in the state to perform the largest-ever Kashmiri folk dance. This was the high point of activities during the “Kashur Riwaaj” cultural festival, which was organized as part of the Independence Day celebrations by the Dagger Division of Chinar Corps, in association with the Baramulla District Administration and the Indrani Balan Foundation.

It was organized at the Prof. Showkat Ali Indoor Stadium with a truly invigorating celebration of Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage involving traditional music and dance troupes, calligraphy, and various other activities. The crowning glory of the event was the synchronized ‘Rouf’ dance performance by 10,000 women that achieved a record in the Universal Records Forum as the largest folk dance ever documented.

Prominent personalities who marked their presence at the venue included Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai, Corps Commander, Chinar Corps, as chief guest, accompanied by Maj. Gen. Rajesh Sethi, GOC Dagger Division, and the Baramulla Brigade Commander, Brigadier Rajat Bhatt. Punit and Janhavi Balan from the Indrani Balan Foundation have also visited, recognizing the greatness of the event.

Other than the record dance performance, the program also featured songs by some famous local artists, which included the 13-year-old child prodigy Ishfaq Hamid Bhatt. He has been declared the recipient of the Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar, 2024, for his prodigious talent with the ‘Rubab’. The audience equally loved the Santoor maestro Naseer Ahmed Mir, a gold medalist in the Kashmir University convocation in 2021.

Adding to the musical tempo were performances by the “Strings of Baramulla” band of the Chinar YUVA Centre, coupled with interactive sessions by popular RJs of Radio Baramulla. Some praiseworthy measures that have come to the fore this Independence Day include
