Govt Dental College, KU Jointly Host Comprehensive Dental Camp

The Department of Public Health Dentistry at Government Dental College, in collaboration with the Health Centre of the University of Kashmir, jointly organized a comprehensive dental camp aimed at providing free dental care services to the masses within the university campus.

The two-day dental awareness camp was inaugurated by Professor Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ajaz Shah, Principal of Government Dental College and Hospital Srinagar, on June 26. The camp continued for two days, benefiting students, employees, and schools affiliated with the University of Kashmir. This initiative is part of the ongoing commitment of the Department of Public Health Dentistry to promote oral health awareness and improve access to dental care services for all.

The camp offered a wide range of services, including dental check-ups, teeth cleaning, fillings, restorative procedures, and oral health education. A team of dentists, specialists, and dental hygienists from the Department of Public Health Dentistry at Government Dental College, led by Dr. Aasim Farooq Shah, Head of the Department, along with doctors from the University Health Centre, provided their expertise to ensure high-quality care. Dr. Khalid Nazir, Coordinator of the University Health Centre, assured full support for the visiting team.

During her inaugural speech, Professor Nilofer Khan emphasized the university’s commitment to employee well-being, stressing the importance of oral health awareness. Prof. Dr. Ajaz Shah, in his address, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with the University of Kashmir, affirming their dedication to promoting oral health awareness at the community level.

The camp was equipped with state-of-the-art dental equipment and facilities, ensuring optimal care for patients. The Department of Public Health Dentistry at Government Dental College also provided free medicine during the camp to those in need.

Educational sessions on oral health care and preventive measures were conducted, demonstrating proper oral hygiene practices using models and charts. School children from the University Model School were among the beneficiaries of these sessions.

 

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Khalid Nazir, Coordinator of the University Health Centre, and Dr. Aasim Farooq Shah, HOD of the Department of Public Health Dentistry at Government Dental College and Hospital Srinagar, briefed the press about the camp’s activities. Medical officers Dr. Suraya Jan, Dr. Azhar Ahmed Wani, and Dr. Iqra Mehraj efficiently coordinated the camp activities.

According to records, the awareness camp, which began on June 26 at 9:30 am and concluded on June 27 at 4:00 pm, benefited more than 412 patients from the university campus and approximately 145 school children from the University Model School.

This initiative not only demonstrated the commitment of both institutions to community health but also highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing public health challenges effectively.
